Synopsis.
Buyer in Hawaii selects parcel post.
Stuff takes a long time to arrive.
Buyer ends up rating shipping time a '2', with positive fb.
Seller confronts buyer, who thought that the rating was anonymous.
Buyer comes to the feedback board, where she encounters intense hostility, and is accused of personally destroying her seller.
Buyer takes this seriously, and is emotionally crushed.
Requests ebay to modify the '2', but is denied.
Accepts board demands to compensate her seller.
Recall: ebay is paying for this board to exist.
Here's Buyer's plight:
I guess I will not be asking any more questions since these boards get rather hostile. I have told the seller to send me a request to change the feedback and I will do so. I have always thought I was a good buyer, but apparently I am not.
Then:
Just an update. I have tried to get the seller rating for shipping revised, eBay said it could not be changed. I even asked to speak to someone in higher authority and was told I would get the same answer. I have told the seller I will send her a payment to make up for her losses. Can anyone tell me what the "discount" amount might be that she says she will lose?
Then:
Since I am a senior citizen on a fixed income I cannot afford to send her thousands of dollars but I think I can afford $100. I am so upset by all of this I had a hard time sleeping last night. Dop you think that woudl be fair?
Eventually:
Would everyone please stop. I feel like I am on trial. I am not a power seller, I had no idea that the seller ratings had anything to do with "discounts". I occasionally sell even though I have been on eBay a long time. I recently have been getting rid of some of my collections as I am getting older and only have one child who does not want my "stuff". Sometimes I go months without listing anything but I buy regularly to build different collections, especially the Hawaiian dinnerware that I still do collect. Do I need to spell out my entire life history? I am sending the seller some compensation and I have already apologized and I have tried to repair the feedback through eBay to no avail.
And finally:
I was advised earlier to pull my post. I kept it on because I felt that I had to defend myself, but now I see that it is not possible to do that. I really tried to make it right and I just get beat up for it. Again, I am sorry that I made that mistake and then asked a question that started the uproar. I hope that when you get to be may age, (over 60) that you do not have to suffer these kind of attacks and meaness. I will leave the post up a little longer so you can see my apology again, I don't know what else to do. I would normally sign something with aloha, but I really don't feel much aloha right now.

Bottom line, the only person going to be hurt by this will again be the seller, just for doing exactly what they were paid for.
ReplyDeleteThe seller violated policy in contacting a buyer with information gleened from a tool ebay provides, yet is a violation to use that information to determine why they are being held accountable for something out of their control.
I'm sure 'blog' author is aware of that and is using that to punish, as they take any opportunity as a seller non-advocate to do so.
All to often buyers are stomp on. Especially if the topic is about feedback or detail rating stars. Heaven forbid if the buyer leaves what they consider a honest feedback.
ReplyDeleteHow dare you do that. Don't you know, Your suppose to give all 5 stars and a positive feedback. Every seller deserves 5 Stars rating. Well at least, that's what they want buyers to believe.
Instead of trying to help the buyer understand. How the feedback system works. Some will crush you with no remorse. You will most likely be put on their Buyers Block List. As if they are the only one that sale on eBay.
Right or Wrong, Some only care about getting that discount. Some sellers will never admit when they made a mistake. If you ever give a seller a 1 or 2 stars. Believe me, your be talked about on the eBay forum.
If a buyer said, They haven't receive their package within the time frame as stated in the listing. They will tell you, Give it some more time. No matter what the question is. It's always, Give It More Time.
I find what they did to this buyer is terrible. This has NOTHING to do with being a seller non-advocate as the first commenter described. Ridiculous! Buyers have no idea what the DSR's imply for the seller! Education is fine but beating up the poor buyer is inexcusable. Shame on you people on the .com boards!!
ReplyDeletePeople who said those things should be locked from the advising forums!
ReplyDeleteThe Pink who has a thread up should go with the UK format such as the Answer Center has with Q&A only and no personal comments at all because the moderation does not have any way to sort out the issues.
That is a great outcome! Many buyers are clueless about feedback/DSR so it's great when this buyer realized how much damage they've done. At least she felt responsible and wanted to offset seller's losses. Too bad the thread went poof, it would have been a nice for all numpty buyers to see.
ReplyDeleteI was on that thread, the buyer was never advised by any board participant to pay any money to the seller.
ReplyDeleteThe Buyer asked questions and was given honest answers.
Question was "Can a seller be charged higher fees due to low DSR's" Answer Yes
The buyer known as OP (original poster) felt bad because she did not realize what low marks could do. In HER remorse she then replied back much later that she sent the seller $100.00 to try and make amends.
Many of the posters on the board prior to and after this happened advised the op to self report the thread to make it go away. Many buyers dont realize what DSR's can do and that sellers lose their livelihood over opinions left in feed back and low DSR's.
Many of the posters, myself included felt bad for the op and further told her that she did not owe the seller anything but an apology if she felt so compelled. That the responsibility of e-Bay to educate its buyers about feed back and DSR's was not being met and therefore she was not responsible for what she thought was an honest opinion. Hopefully this helps to clarify this blog. Robert

ReplyDeleteCorrect.
Buyer was viciously attacked, and made to feel like some kind of sociopath.
Emotionally crushed, buyer sought to make amends by paying out money.
Indeed, some posters belatedly recognized the travesty.

ReplyDeleteTHAT IS AWESOME!!! That should be made as an example to ALL buyers especially those with sub-optimal intelligence!
